Maybe Zippy’s Chili?

Here is a recipe for Zippy’s chili that includes peanut butter and Portuguese sausage:


  • 1 lb Portuguese sausage, sliced
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tbsp chili powder
  • 2 tsp ground cumin
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1 tsp dried basil
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1 can (14.5 oz) diced tomatoes
  • 1 can (15 oz) tomato sauce
  • 1 can (15 oz) kidney beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1 can (15 oz) pinto beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 2 tbsp creamy peanut butter
  • Shredded cheddar cheese, for serving (optional)
  • Chopped green onions, for serving (optional)
  • Sour cream, for serving (optional)


  1. In a large pot or Dutch oven, cook the Portuguese sausage over medium heat until browned, about 5-7 minutes.
  2. Add the onion and garlic to the pot and cook until softened, about 2-3 minutes.
  3. Stir in the chili powder, cumin, oregano, basil, paprika, cayenne pepper, salt, and black pepper.
  4. Add the diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, kidney beans, pinto beans, and water.
  5. Stir in the creamy peanut butter until fully incorporated.
  6. Bring the chili to a boil, then reduce the heat and let simmer for 30-45 minutes, until the flavors have melded together.
  7. Serve the chili hot, topped with shredded cheddar cheese, chopped green onions, and a dollop of sour cream, if desired.
